Aperitifs

The aperitivo can be enjoyed at the dining table, standing up just before sitting down for the meal, or even in a public place different from where the meal will be consumed. In many cases, this custom has taken on the name "aperitivo," and the drink is usually accompanied by savory snacks or actual appetizers.

Some of the most popular aperitivos include the Americano, Pirlo, Spritz, Negroni, Mezzoemezzo Nardini, Campari, Rossini, and Sanpellegrino. Among aperitivos consisting of a single alcoholic drink, prosecco holds the record.

The aperitivo trend has been deeply rooted throughout Italy for several years and is gradually spreading to other countries, including Switzerland, France, Austria, Slovenia, Serbia, and Germany.

From a physiological perspective, the aperitivo has effects such as stimulating the secretion of gastric juices, which can increase the feeling of hunger. If consumed in small quantities, it can have slight benefits for digestion; however, excessive consumption can make digestion more difficult and lead to a significant increase in calories consumed during the subsequent meal.
